v1.2 Released

From performance improvements to social integration, version 1.2 of Bootplate is leaner and meaner than ever.  Here’s a quick rundown of the new features, functionalities, and customization settings included in this latest Bootplate release.

Speed Matters

You’re damn right.  Loading speed separates the men from the boys–especially in WordPress themes where TONS of different assets loading separately can slow your site down to a crawl.

v1.2 of Bootplate comes with several performance enhancing tweaks you can make from a new Performance settings control panel in the Theme Customizer (Appearance >> Customize >> Performance).

Social Sharing

Many times people will install a plugin for social media integration–or social sharing at least.  There’s nothing to say you shouldn’t.  However, Bootplate is already loading all the code necessary to do this (font icons, button groups, etc.), so why not make it an option to use the built-in stuff?!

Well, in v1.2, we did just that.  Under General Settings in the Theme Customizer there’s now a checkbox for Enable Social Sharing which adds a clean and simple social sharing widget to the bottom (just above the pagination and comments) allowing users to share your content on their favorite social media websites.

See the bottom of this post for an example.

Prefer a plugin?  That’s cool.  The option is disabled by default.  You won’t hurt our feelings.

Updated Author Page

The Author archive page has been around since v0.5, but we added more information to the header from the author’s WordPress Profile.

Don’t worry.  If you enter nothing in those social media fields in your profile, the template will just skip it.

Numerous Bug Fixes

That’s just a few of the improvements made in this latest v1.2 release.  Check out the GitHub repo for a full list.
