Templates

We’re trying to keep this pretty simple and extending and customizing Bootplate primarily via plugins and child themes.  However, we couldn’t help building in a handful of snazzy page templates for you to have at your disposal.

There are also a few “specialty” page templates you should be aware of toward the bottom.

Full-Width Page

Sidebars?  Where we’re going we don’t need sidebars.  Check out an example of a full-width page template.  It’s also the Default page template if you don’t select another template under the Page Attributes portlet in the page editor.

Full-Height Page

Grab some attention with a full-height page template.  It has no sidebars (based on the default page template) and a header that’s dynamically set to 100% of the viewport.  There’s also a version with a large background image.

Page: Sidebar Left

Check out an example page using the Page: Left Sidebar template. There’s a screenshot of what that looks like from the admin-side below. For now, all you need to know is that the sidebar is on the–drum roll please–left.

Page: Sidebar Right

You can’t have a left-sidebar page template without having one for the right.  Each uses its own left or right widget area so things don’t get redundant.

2-Sidebar Layout

We’ve got a sidebar-left template and a sidebar-right template.  Seemed only fair to have a page template with both.  That’s what this template accomplishes.  Sidebars DO look a little squished in this template.  Fair warning.

Category & Archives

Bootplate comes with all the classic WordPress templates required for a modern theme including templates for Category, Archive, Author, and single post pages.  Check out the 3-column magazine layout.  Very responsive and fancy.

Search Page & Rewrites

WordPress likes to simply use the home page with a query string for its built-in search.  We think that’s terrible.

Bootplate comes with BOTH a search-specific page (bootplate.jdmdigital.co/search/) as well as URL rewrites that turn a search for the word “Bootplate” from something ugly like index.php?s=bootplate into something more like /search/bootplate which is WAY better for SEO, bookmarking, sharing, and the planet.  Well, maybe not the planet, but it’s still pretty cool.

404 Page

Go to a page that doesn’t exist (like this one) and you’ll see the customized 404 page.  The header uses .bg-danger and the content is editable either via the MO/PO files in /languages/ or using a Child theme with the template 404.php.

Author Template

Clicking the name of an author from a post, takes you to a dynamic listing of all the posts on the site by that author.  In the header, you’ll notice some handy meta description information about that author based on information they’ve input into their WordPress profile.
