Bootplate v2 Coming Soon

After a year-long hiatus, the friendly web design nerds at JDM Digital are finally getting back to making the final changes, completing QC, and merging the development branch into master. Then we’ll release Bootplate v2.0.

What’s planned for v2? Let’s take a look.

New Blog Layout Option

We love the newspaper layout included in Bootplate v1.x, but we’ve heard a lot of feedback asking for a more traditional layout. Fair enough.

How about something like the layout the blog, Medium, uses?

Full Bootstrap v4 Alpha Incorporation

The vision is to create an option in the theme Customizer to use either our expanded version of Bootstrap v3.3.7 or v4 with some fallbacks. For backwards compatibility reasons, we’ll set this option to default to the legacy version.

Version 4 of Bootstrap uses flexbox, CSS Grids and other modern specs which aren’t supported by older browsers. We think it makes sense to allow the developer to make the decision on whether to use this latest version or the older one if compatibility with older browsers is a design requirement.

New Function Hooks

Though only developers may get excited about this one, it’s a core feature coming in v2 of Bootplate. We will be building in new function hooks allowing theme developers more control over the look and feel of the rendered site without overwriting the template file completely.
